Open Masters Online Portfolio
The short: I am on a mission to combine my interests in art and psychology.
The long: This website is my Open Master‘s journey to learn how to be a community-oriented artist, an expert on the concept of "flow", a fabric designer, a teacher, and a spreader of love for art made by adults with disabilities.
What I do
Process
Inquire
Whether it's designing a logo or coming up with a new print for fabric, I'm first drawn to the act of asking questions and investigating deep into what it is I'm trying to accomplish. This may take the form of going on a hike, writing down streams of consciousness, looking for examples, or even listening to music.
Appreciate
Since many different sights, sounds, and smells usually occur during the Inquiry period, I then need time to appreciate what I've discovered. This usually takes the form of loose sketches or paintings, and I try to stick to one subject at a time to isolate where the inspiration is coming from.
Create
After I ask questions and take time to meditate on what I've discovered, it's time to get to work! Sometimes very specific projects emerge out of this stage, sometimes just shapes that become ideas for future projects. Either way, this cycle keeps me happy and busy during any down-time I can find.
“To overcome the anxieties and depressions of contemporary life, individuals must become independent of the social environment to the degree that they no longer respond exclusively in terms of its rewards and punishments. To achieve such autonomy, a person has to learn to provide rewards to herself. She has to develop the ability to find enjoyment and purpose regardless of external circumstances.”
